Hola foodies/travelers! Welcome to Episode 01 of Travel&Spice for your dose of spicy travel, where travellers share interesting stories about their favourite meal, restaurant or food encounters.

Today, Somnath from Travel Crusade talks about his experience with the aromatic, flavoursome Hyderabadi Biryani.

Over to him…

I am talking about the special, authentic Hyderabadi Biryani that attracts millions in the nation. The authentic and the best one is not actually found in commercial outlets. Instead, it is found in genuine, smaller outlets in the city of Hyderabad which live true to the taste of their ‘home’ biryani.

Recently on my visit to Hyderabad, I was quite fortunate to taste the delicious dish in a city outlet called Ruman near Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The biryani was served in a fibre plate with onions and raita.

The charge is minimal as compared to the bigger city outlets and is within the reach of the common man. Also, the processing and preparation time of these dishes is quite less and the order is delivered immediately.

The colour of the dish is yellowish-white and its piquancy and smell attracts the public. Vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian variants of the dish are available in the shop. It is clearly not a disappointment for people who prefer vegetarian food to stay fit and healthy. Normally, there are a lot of city outlets where you can actually purchase the dish, but for the fear of disappointment in terms of its price, taste and flavour, I would urge food junkies and biryani-lovers to try this dish in this particular outlet and bask in the striking flavour of the country.

Thanks to Travel crusade, you now know where to satisfy your biryani cravings.

  1. Biriyani has a different taste in every city of India,In South it tastes different,Hyderabad is one of my favourites,In North and West India, they add too many spices which tastes different,In East India the difference is in the color and flavor and they do not serve it with raita….

  2. I love trying different foods but have to confess biryani is my least favourite of the curries. I am glad that you enjoyed your experience though and maybe I should try it in India for a more authentic taste

  4. One of the reason of why I travelled to India was for the food…and I was not disappointed! Byriani was one of our favorite thing to order but ofcourse each region has their own way too prepare it. I have neve been to Hyderabad but I am sure their Byriani is lip smacking good

  5. Oh my goodness! I’ve only recently tried Biryani at a new Indian restaurant that opened in Salt Lake City. It was SO GOOD! I can’t wait to visit Hyderabad some day and try it in-country for the first time!

  6. I have had biryani many times, both in my country, at Indian restaurants, and in India. As I haven’t been to Hyderabadi yet, I didn’t try the authentic one, but I assume it’s really good. They are always better at their places of origin. It’s good that you can choose from both vegetarian and non vegetarian. I prefer the later.

  7. It’s amazing to get a look at other regions recipes, thanks for the peek! Do you have a favorite recipe for Biryani? I’d love to visit this best outlet, I’m wondering what they do differently. While visiting Hyderabad is a little out of my reach for now, I’d love to try a recreation!
