Of sand dunes and desert-boarding…Β
Happy to have Karla Ramos of Taste company share some wonderful ways of maxing your adventure quotient in Dubai.
Dubai is a multi-faceted country and means many different things to different people. Dubai is famously known for its extravagant lifestyles, shimmering malls of commercial indulgence, buildings that challenge the laws of gravity, and much more.
But there is one more side to Dubai. The thrilling side of Dubai is in the adventure activities that it offers. Dubai, because of its preeminent global status, is well connected to all parts of the world, and with the emergence of low cost air carriers, one can easily and economically get to Dubai. One can easily get Chennai to Dubai Flight tickets at low cost or for that matter from any other destination in the world. So if you are looking for an adrenaline rush, then the desert sands are waiting for you. Here is a look at some of the top adventure activities that Dubai offers:
1. Dune Bashing in the DesertΒ
The vast desert that borders the city of Dubai is a wide open invitation for adventure. One can head to the desert and set up camp there and probably catch a sunset while enjoying a barbecue. Once those basics are taken care of, the sand dunes challenge you for an adventure. There is nothing more exciting then hanging on for dear life inside a 4X4 as you careen across the undulating sand dunes. One moment you are on the top of a dune and suddenly with a swerve, the skilled driver lets the vehicle plummet don the dune at almost 90 degrees. This activity which is known as dune bashing is the desert version of a roller coaster ride.
2. Sand Boarding in the Desert
Move aside snowboarding, when in Dubai, itβs sand boarding calling. This exciting and extreme sport similar to snowboarding involves gliding down or across sand dunes with feet strapped to a flat board.
3. Quad Biking in the Desert
Quad biking is always an exciting adventure. Add to that the challenge of riding on sand, the sport is taken to a different level altogether. Negotiating the dips and turns and sharp drops will surely test your handling skills as well as your nerves. But the thrill of riding away into the sunset raising a cloud of sand is well worth the challenges.
4. Skydiving
Dubai from the skies is nothing short of a revelation. In fact, Dubai is considered one of the top drop zones for skydiving in the world. Whether you are a beginner or are skilled, skydiving in Dubai will generate thrills beyond compare. Just imagine free falling over the Palm Jumeirah and then floating like a bird as you see the iconic landmarks of Dubai from up inΒ the sky.
5. Hot Air Ballooning
Another fascinating way to see spectacular Dubai is while floating above it in a hot air balloon. Hot air ballooning has its own magic. There is always something special about floating and feeling weightless above a city. It the city you are flying above is as spectacular as Dubai, then you will cherish those magical moments as memories for a lifetime.
6. Gyrocopter flight over Dubai
Have you always fancied about piloting your own aircraft and flying high above the clouds. If yes your fantasy can come close to reality when you take a gyrocopter ride over Dubai. The gyrocopter is a small double-seater plane just like a helicopter and uses unpowered rotors. The flight which usually lasts about twenty minutes will be nothing like what you have ever experienced. You get a 360 degree panoramic view of Dubai city from the skies. Can anything be more thrilling?
7. Cycling in Dubai
If you want to see things real close and get an immersive experience than nothing is better than cycling. Dubai has emerged an attractive destination for keen cyclists. Converted camel tracks, professional cycling velodromes and dedicated cycle tracks offer exciting options for cycling. The Al Qudra cycle track makes for an excellent cycling experience. It has trails that range from eight kilometres to fifty kilometers and take you through some stunning desert landscapes including sand dunes.
8. Kayaking in Dubai
There is nothing like seeing the Dubai skyline from the waters. Kayaking in Dubai affords an exhilarating experience as you paddle near Palm Jumeirah and feast your eyes on spectacular views of the iconic structures like the Atlantis, Burj Khalifa, and Burj Al Arab. An experience you will take home with you as invaluable memories.
These are some of the wide range of adventure activities that Dubai tempts you with. The sheer range of experiences that Dubai offers is mind boggling. There are activities on land that will give your adrenaline a rush and then there are activities in the sky that will make your spirits soar, and finally the adventures on water will leave you asking for more. Are you ready for an adrenaline rush? Dubai awaits to thrill you to the core.
Thanks, Zara. Cheers!!

I’ll take one of each please. They all sound like so much fun. The dropping straight down in the dune bashing and I’ve always wanted to try dune sledding. Guess I know one of the things we’re doing when heading to Dubai.

We loved Dubai so much the last time we were there, that we’re planning another trip there soon! Hope to finish off the remaining activities on this list then!

I am quite curious to know how much a gyrocopter ride would cost. I think I would definitely like that. The rest of it seems pretty much done or doable. This would be an exclusive.

I’ve been to Dubai several times, and have tremendously enjoyed both dune bashing and quad biking quite a bit. I may not be able to enjoy skydiving, hot air balloon rides or Gyrocopter owing to my fear of heights, but several others in the list sound great and doable. I think I’d particularly enjoy sand boarding and kayaking near Palm Jumeirah

Unfortunately I missed out on any of the desert experiences when i was in Dubai, however they sound amazing! The sand boarding would probably be top of my list as I’ve never done it before. However i love cycling and Dubai sounds like an interesting choice as a cycling destination – I’m intrigued by converted camel tracks.

I have anything to do with desert and extreme sports and combine them both must be awesome! The rally on the sand dunes must be so much fun, although I heard driving on sand is not as easy as it look like. After the rally, why nor jump on a hot air balloon! Magic! Ohh now I kind of want to book a flight ticket to Dubai!

Hot air ballooning in the desert in Dubai totally sounds like my cup of tea! I would love to be able to rise up into the area and overlook the city of Dubai from a hot air balloon. And the sand bashing and sand boarding does sound quite exhilarating – it’s amazing how there are so many things to do in the desert.

It’s interesting to see that Dubai is home to such a wide variety of outdoor activities for travellers to embark on, such as sandboarding and quad biking. Nevertheless, the hot air ballooning and gyrocopter flights definitely seem to be extremely attractive and interesting, even though they probably cost a fortune.
