Of mountainous backdrops and cozy vibes…
A chilly winter day in the backdrop of the magnificent mountain range of India calls for a warm and cozy break. Where did I head to, instead? Well, I headed further uphill to seek shelter in a cottage on the lap of the Himalayas itself… and what a day it was! A fuzzy sweater and woolen beanie accompanied me to a getaway in solitude; my new home away from home.
Where: Brigadier’s Cottage, Mussoorie, near Kempty Falls
When: December 2017 – peak winters. I shiver as I write

As you all know by now, I like exploring places that are not crowded with tourists. I’m glad I chose to go towards Kempty Falls off-season to enjoy an uncluttered break with snow-capped peaks visible far behind the dull green mountains and valleys.

The first impression of the cottage is brilliant. It looks really tiny, but it’s not that small. A flight of steps leads to the lounge and three rooms through the hallway. The paintings all around the property are bound to pique your interest.
More than the room, I spend time chilling at the living area cum lounge. It had different types of seating, a chess board, bookshelf, and the most important element – a functional fireplace. Doesn’t it sound perfect for the winters?
What happens when you see a fireplace? You end up thawing yourself, enjoying a relaxed evening over books and coffee. Yes, this cottage is THE place for book lovers. A dedicated bookshelf adorns a wall beside the fireplace.
Calling all dog lovers, and not just dogs, but pet lovers by large. This pet-friendly property allows you to get your Tommy and Kitty who can make friends with the in-house well-groomed breeds or simply enjoy their time bonding with you all.
I run away from cold climates and only stay at properties that are well-equipped with heating equipment. A heater in the room and lounge, the fireplace and electric blanket on request were just perfect for spending a housecoat and pyjama kinda relaxing weekend at the cottage.
As if this wasn’t enough, I was amazed by the home-cooked food. The staff at Brigadiers Cottage was really friendly and helpful and ever-ready to cook up a delicious meal in their kitchen – fresh veggies and chicken guaranteed.
For a travel blogger, connectivity is essential on the go. In fact, no one these days can make do without strong network and that is exactly what I got here. Phew! Those of you who’ve followed my live updates and Instagram stories would know.
Lyf&Spice conveys heartfelt thanks to Brigadier’s Cottage for the homely stay. We had a great time, and hope to be back next season.
Lyf&Spice family now has a new space to call home for a weekend, quick break or for a family catch-up. For all you readers, simply book your stay at Brigadiers Cottage , gather your dear ones and trot away to the getaway worth an experience. Kempty Falls is barely a 10-minute walk from the property. Take a stroll around the garden, hike along the nature trails or walk to the falls. Either way, there is no scope for getting bored at all.

The Brigadier’s Cottage definitely looks and sounds like a Himalayan Retreat. I was in the Himalayas a couple of years ago trekking and I would love to go back. This is definitely a place I would consider staying in on my return. I especially love how homy and cosy like a home away from home. My favourite is it is pet friendly, my type of place
