Albert Einstein once said, “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” So true this thought is! The bounty of nature makes one understand the meaning of life and unveil the mysteries that come across it.
Being brought up in a town surrounded by lakes and forests, I always found Nature as my guide. The hills and valleys of Chiang Mai taught me that Nature is cheaper than any therapy in the world and whenever you feel low, take shelter in the lap of Nature, and all your pains and worries will vanish soon. So, if you are about to plan your trip to Thailand, and Chiang Mai is there in your itinerary, let me explain how you can reboot your headspace with the help of natural surroundings of Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai is popular across the world for its mist shrouded mountains and lush green valleys. Apart from this, you can feel the sense of spirituality in the air of this city as it is known for thousands of Buddhist temples (wat in Thai). Some of these eye-catching temples include Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Wat Umong, Wat Sri Suphan, Wat Lok Molee, and more. All of these temples are surrounded by big Buddha statues, aromatic incense and candles, paintings of monks and elephants, flags, and Stupas. The temples are centuries old, and therefore, while a slice of history awaits you here, the chanting sounds by monks (who have been praying here since ages), will make you feel the presence of God. A few of the temples in the city also have a “Monk Chat” program where you can unwind your mind and seek guidance.
If you are bored of the chaos and nightlife of Bangkok, and now you are searching for a serene place just to relax and meditate upon your thoughts, the lush green countryside of Chiang Mai is perfect in every aspect. People often refer Chiang Mai as “The Rose of the North”, and the reason is the city’s fascinating natural beauty and cultural heritage. The endless rice paddies that you will find at every corner of the city, tranquil lakes, and lush forests make the atmosphere full of phenomenal calmness. If you don’t want to drive away, visit Huay Tung Tao Lake; want to gaze at something gorgeous falls, head to Bua Tong Sticky Waterfall; want to experience something magical, come to Chiang Dao Caves. In addition to these, the picturesque village of Mae Kampong with its fairytale setting and hot springs should be a part of your travel planning.
The spiritual atmosphere of Buddhist temples and the mountainous surroundings of Chiang Mai are sure to bring you peace and comfort. But if you are still not satisfied, there is a lot to do in the city to be delighted from within. Get a foot massage in a rehabilitation center, taste the mouthwatering Thai cuisine (you can join a Thai cooking class too), drink the Ceylon tea (Cha Yen in Thai), enjoy a ride through the city in songthaew, bathe an elephant in the Elephant Nature Park, and soon you will realize the joy of celebrating little things in life. So, don’t wait and get ready to explore the natural beauty of Chiang Mai to rejuvenate and relax.
