Hop, Sip and Jump: In Minneapolis

Let’s go… explore…

This is a post with a twist. Today, we blindfold you and take you to your favourite city. There will be three stops centred on three different kinds of activities. Get back to us and tell us what your favourite stop was. Here’s what you can do to chill in Minneapolis like a boss.

Hop

Hop along the parks and lakes of the popular Minneapolis-Saint Paul region of Minnesota. To begin with, visit the Chain of Lakes. Jog, walk or bike along the well-paved paths of the three lakes it encompasses, including the Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, and Lake Harriet. Lake of the Isles is the same icy lake that doubles as a skating rink during the winter.

As a city by the banks of the Mississippi River, Minneapolis is bound to be rich in creeks, lakes, wetlands, and waterfalls. Head over to Minnehaha Falls at Minnehaha Park or spend time at Loring Park. As the biggest park around, Loring Park is famed for its annual events.

Who doesn’t like to treat their taste buds to some gourmet delights while on vacation? Think of tiramisu donuts, pizzas, and all those baked goodies at famed patisseries, and let your hunger get the better of you. From quirky diners and themed cafés to oddly named lounges, you’ll find it all here.

To make things easy, you could take a Minneapolis river walk and food tour. Enjoy historic neighbourhoods with food tasting sessions at local eateries. You most certainly have to take a brewery tour, too. Enjoying a couple of craft brews as the sun sets, along with some useful tasting recommendations isn’t a bad idea after all.

What are you waiting for? Pick up your empty pail and start filling it with drool-worthy food items and desserts, and drink all you want on your trip to the Twin Cities as you gain an insight into the history and culture of the region. Did we forget to mention a worthwhile stop to a farmers market?

Jump

Jump from one piece to art to another or from one museum to another. Let’s try something interesting. We’ll drop you off at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. It’s a park with a twist providing you with a dose of fun and plenty of photography opportunities. The park spans 11 acres and showcases unique artwork like the famous “Spoonbridge and Cherry” installation. Isn’t it just perfect for family outings? Take a self-guided tour if need be.

If museums interest you, don’t miss your chance to check out the Weisman Art Museum, the Mill City Museum, The Bakken Museum, The Museum of Russian Art, and more. If attending a cultural event is what you like to do, check out the dates of various music festivals and concerts in advance, and enjoy Minneapolis in style.

There you go. You have a chance to hop, sip, and jump in this global city even if you’re pressed for time. Have you been to Minneapolis yet? Share your experiences with us.

  1. Just how much of a hassle is it to get a visa? It seems like a lot more extra work then getting a standard visa (especially here in Malaysia where we have to go through with Q&A session beforehand, etc.) I’m dying to go there, it has been a long held dream. But I’m a bit turned off by the whole process, and it’s kind of holding me back in actually booking my trip – but I’m still dead keen.

  2. No, I have not visited Minneapolis before, and not even sure if I will have the chance to in this lifetime. Visa will be a great hassle as I am from Malaysia, plus I have visited the Middle East before. LOL
